Breckenridge is a Victorian mining town recognized worldwide for its epic winters. What does all that snow mean for you? Legendary Colorado whitewater. The largest historic district in Colorado, Breckenridge is a gateway to all things outdoors: whitewater rafting, biking, kayaking, hiking, fishing, horseback riding and more. Don’t forget shopping, nightlife and the award-winning restaurants that dot the streets of downtown.
Founded in 1859, Breckenridge got its start with the onset of Colorado’s gold rush. Thousands of people flocked here and to all of Colorado in search of fortune. As the town went from boom to bust, several large families set down Colorado roots, hoping to keep Breckenridge alive.
One such clan, the E.T. Brooks family, built a log cabin on Main Street in 1916 as a wedding gift for their son Gordon and his bride Adele.
Today, the Colorado Adventure Center calls that cabin home. It’s our flagship location and the starting point for rafting the Blue and Colorado rivers and biking down Vail Pass. Pre- or post-trip, take some time to relax on our Main Street patio, which overlooks the slopes of Breckenridge Ski Resort. Use the “Directions” link in the map to get directions.
